La Louverie - GITE

Out and About

There is lots to do all year around and we have provided in each property lots of information leaflets giving you options of where to go and what to do.
There is something for everyone, but obviously some attractions may be seasonal.
The local town of Gavray, which is about 3 miles away has its own tourist office and weekly market. Here you will also find many of the local amenities such as restaurants, bars, bakeries, butchers, doctor, pharmacy, vets and launderette. There is a lovely riverside walk not far from the property that takes you into the centre of Gavray.
Normandy is rich with history with the D-Day landing beaches within an hours drive and many other historical attractions and places of interest. In easy reach you can also find amusement parks and a zoo and for the more energetic some adrenaline activities, ranging from go karting to bungee jumping!!
There are beaches less than ½ hours drive and the lovely harbour of Granville where there are boat trips and you can even take a day trip across to Jersey. France is abundant with places to walk and cycle, and 2016 will see the Tour de France start in Normandy. Why not start planning your holiday and search the internet for what’s nearby – Many attractions have a website that is translated into English.”
Getting Here

Arriving in Caen – Caen is about 1 hours drive from us – you can start your holiday by taking a ferry from Portsmouth or Poole – the trip takes about 5 ½ hours and you can even book a cabin. Pets can travel in the car.
Arriving in Le Havre – The port of Le Havre is about 2 hours drive from us. The advantage here is that on certain boats there are pet friendly cabins available, through Brittany ferries.
Arriving in Cherbourg – The port of Cherbourg is about 2 hours drive from us. There is an option in the summer to start your journey on a fast cat meaning that the trip across the water only takes about 3 hours.
Arriving in St Malo – This is a lovely port and can be reached from the UK. We are about 1 ½ hour drive from the port
Arriving in Dieppe – A ferry can be taken from Newhaven arriving in Dieppe which is approximately 3 hours drive from us
Arriving in  Calais or Dunkirk – Ferry trips are significantly cheaper when going from Dover to Calais or Dunkirk. Its about a 4 ½ hour drive to us but you will find the experience of driving in France much more pleasurable than that in the UK due to the open roads that are virtually all motorway. The downside is that a few of them are toll roads which costs about 40 Euros for the journey.
Directions   We will provide you with exact directions to the property before you travel.
